global trend
As people continue to strive to stay healthy in the face of chronic stress, pollution, aging, re-emergence of infectious diseases, side effects of potent drugs, and rising cost of conventional medicines and health care, many now turn to more natural and preventive approaches to boost their health, including use of botanicals. Proper diet, nutrition, supplementation, exercise and other disciplines also prove helpful in the overall health maintenance plan.
Around the world, health care practitioners are increasingly using herbs and natural therapies alongside modern forms of treatment, with a renewed understanding of the body’s own power to heal. Many doctors now blend the best of conventional medicine with alternative healing and have found powerful new treatments that work.
our humble beginnings
November 14, 2002 marked the beginning of Greenleaf Herbals, Inc. as a legal corporation registered under the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as trader/distributor of herbal, food and health supplements. Green Leaf currently holds FDA licenses to operate as a Food Trader and Importer. Their LTO as a Food Manufacturer is currently underway pending the completion and approval of its new manufacturing facility in Antipolo City.
Greenleaf Herbals Inc. was founded by a former government officer and head of the Natural Products Division of CITEM-DTI who conceptualized a two-year development program to promote Philippines herbal, organic and natural products. This was done in close cooperation with a multi-sectoral team of technical experts from various government, NGO, private sector and academic institutions. The program included technical consultancy arrangements with a German natural medicine doctor and an industrial pharmacist for the herbal sector, and collaboration with local and foreign organic certifying groups for the organic sector.
The program realized the potential and importance of supporting the growing Philippine herbal and organic sector in relation to the increasing worldwide trend on natural, herbal and organic products. Part of the project results were the organization of a Philippine organic certifying body, technical conference and exhibition on natural health products (BIOSEARCH), production of 20 prototype herbal products from 15 Philippine medicinal plants including neem, holy basil, gotu kola (takip-kuhol), turmeric, ginger, garlic and gatas-gatas, among others. Later in 2002, the herbal/organic program was integrated into the food projects of CITEM.
frequently asked questions
How are Green Leaf products any different from the other supplements available in the market?
Greenleaf only makes use of standardized extracts or concentrates that provide exact and guaranteed consistent levels of plant bio-actives in every dose. Consumers, therefore, get the optimum beneficial effects from the plant active constituents which target specific health conditions while balancing the entire system and restoring healthy body functions.
Why should I go for herbs?
Herbs are easier to integrate biologically by the body, with less risk of adverse effects when taken in an appropriate dosage.
Are there side effects?
Some herbal medications can have side effects, but these effects are rare and seldom severe. Generally, taking a herb at random will result in no more serious complication than a stomach ache. Intake of large quantities or overdose of herbs is almost always impossible.
How long will herbal supplements take effect?
Herbs usually act gently and slowly. It takes time for an herb to achieve its desired effect on the body, as they usually get metabolized and excreted in the urine a few hours after intake. In supplementing with herbs, it is important, therefore, to consider consistent intake of the herb in its recommended dosage to ensure that the plant bio-actives are made available for the body to use and to attain the desired effect.
